The Diploma in Art and Design Level 7 (Advanced) offers students a broad range of learning experiences within the arts and business and management; to enable them to make informed choices for their future within creative industries or related employment opportunities. The Diploma in Art and Design Level 7 (Advanced) will enable students choose their preferred media to specialise in and support their praxis with art theory.
The Diploma in Art and Design Level 7 (Advanced) recognises the advanced level of knowledge, skills and competence required for practitioners in the art and design industry; and for entry to Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design BFA; or teacher training of secondary school art.
On successful completion of this programme, students will have the skills and knowledge to: 

  • Demonstrate a wide range of practical media skills at advanced level
  • Discuss theory in design and art history
  • Produce Artefacts or art experiences to exhibition standard
  • Identify clear vocational pathways
  • Gain entry to teacher training of secondary school art
  • Gain entry to the Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design BFA

Entry Requirements

Admission and entry requirements for this programme shall be in accordance with the criteria stated in Part Three of Waiariki’s Academic Statue.
Additional requirements specific to this programme are as follows:
Level 6 Art and Design qualification or equivalent. Level six graduates with restricted passes will be considered and approved be Head of School.
Applicants may gain entry through assessment of prior learning that is cognisant of the practical art skill, independent studio practice and academic experience at level six equivalence.

About the programme

This advanced diploma provides an opportunity to apply and focus prior knowledge skills and experience in art discourse and praxis, culminating in a professional graduate exhibition. The qualification will assist in further post-graduate studies as well as strengthening the range of industry options available
